Bio

Regina Maria Möller is an artist, author, founder of the magazine “regina” and founder of the label “embodiment”. She works with a wide range of medial formats.

“The multitude of voices into which Regina Maria Möller splits her artistic work corresponds to the various positions she adopts with regard to that which she confronts. Similar to the way in which overlapping circles form intersections that shift previously peripheral material into a (new) center, Möller shifts attention and reshuffles the cards, so to speak: secondary characters become protagonists, coherencies become contents, opposites are robbed of their oppositions. Möller uses the strategies inherent in her media, overwriting and adapting them for her own purposes, and shows that there are always a number of different versions underneath and alongside the official interpretation.”
(Matthias Herrmann in: Regina Möller: embodiment – dress plot, exhibition catalogue Secession, Vienna 2004)

1994 she founded the magazine regina – which achieved international acknowledgement. regina is an adaptation of the format of mainstream women’s fashion magazine and their notion of women’s everyday life. regina includes the familiar sections – fashion, work, home & garden, recipes, partnership – but the real content of regina is evident how this everyday is dealt with differently, often through the production of discourse.

In the same year she launched the (art) label embodiment. Under this label she produces limited editions of furniture, wallpaper, carpets, accessories and clothes imbuing their materials with new, unusual meanings. The embodiment works can be worn or used as functional design objects. They also reference portraiture and sculpture. embodiment is to be understood as a seam between art and design, and it is a research field about the relation between the body and the societal costume.

The projects and works of Regina Maria Möller are shown internationally; Manifesta 1, Aperto - Venice Biennial, Wiener Secession, 3rd Berlin Biennial, Sprengel Museum Hannover, Tate St. Ives, Kunstverein München, etc. Aside from her projects she contributes continuously with talks, lectures and workshops worldwide. She has been lecturing as professor and guest professor at international universities and academies, and since 2009 she is teaching at the sculpture department of the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art.
