IT’S ABOUT TIME
110 artists and 700 questions
Public lecture performance by Veronika Radulovic

Wednesday, November 5
10.00 - 12.00

Galleri KIT

The lecture will be given in form of a question-essay which introduces art practices and artistic modells that engage with time. How have artists approached the topic of time starting in the 1880s up until now, and how have they represented time? When did time delayed rooms happen first and when did definitions like time based art enter the discourse?
Personal questions like: How long does it take to recover from heartache? position themselves next to questions, that point out art historical facts.
Philosophical approaches always lead to the one core question: Can time be made visible?
The lecture considers contemporary artists as well as pioneers, classical modernists and demonstrates that time is not a clearly definable unit and continues to be incalculable.
How do I address this in my art practice? How do I approach certain tasks and accommodate social, artistic, cross-cultural, aesthetic, interdisciplinary or ecological requirements?

All the questions posed in this lecture will form the basis of a workshop resulting in an exhibition about time, which will be realised within the next term.

This lecture performance is open to the public.

The workshop / seminar is open to all students at KIT / NTNU and limited to 10 participants. To sign up please send a mail to

About:
Veronika Radulovic, artist, art consultant, curator and collector, first came to Hanoi in the early 1990´s to study Vietnamese lacquer art. From 1994 to 2005 she was the first international lecturer at the Hanoi University of Fine Arts, sponsored by DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service). Working in cooperation with various institutions and museums in Germany, she served as an important link between German and Vietnamese contemporary art, and curated several major exhibitions, including: Lacquer, Earth, Stone at the Museum für Lackkunst Münster, Germany (sponsored by BASF, 1995); the Gap Vietnam Project at the House of the World Culture Berlin (1998); the project Ryllega Berlin at the Volksbühne Berlin (2008); and the ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen) exhibition Connect: Kunstszene Vietnam (2009/2010).
In 2005, she published her book: Sicherheitsabstand (Safe Distance) Vietnam. Art. Politics. Friendships. Eine Annäherung), a personal account of the development of contemporary art in Vietnam from the early 1990’s to today.
2010/11, in cooperation with the Goethe Institute Hanoi and with support from the Berlin Senate, she initiated and conducted the OPEN ACADEMY in Hanoi, Hue and Ho Chi Minh City.
Due to her many years of teaching and her extensive activities in Hanoi and Vietnam, Veronika Radulovic is considered one of the most important pioneers in the development of the contemporary art scene in Vietnam. She currently lives and works in Berlin.
