Armin Linke: The Appearance of That Which Cannot be Seen
"The Appearance of That Which Cannot be Seen" is an exhibition as a process of activating the archive of Armin Linke through dialogue. Armin sets the initial frame by sharing photographs with thinkers from various fields and inviting them to react. By reading these images through their theories and concepts, each produces a selection. These selections form the exhibition organized as a changing topology of dialogues, transforming itself in space through new internal relationships and different modes of occupation. Starting from this recent exhibition project Armin Linke will present different projects and strategies in film and photography production and distribution.
Armin Linke was born in 1966 and lives in Berlin.
Armin Linke’s artistic practice is concerned with the interrelations and transformative powers between urban, architectural or spatial functions and the human being’s interacting with these environments. His films and photographs are observations of the human changes to the Earth’s climate, land, oceans and biosphere.
Further, he combines a range of contemporary image-processing technologies in order to blur the borders between fiction and reality. Through work with his own archive, as well as with other historical archives, Linke challenges the conventions of photographic practice, whereby the questions of how photography is installed and displayed become increasingly important. When the artist takes over the role of an exhibition maker in a collective approach, together with artists, designers, architects, historians and curators, narratives are procured on the level of multiple discourses.
He was Research Affiliate at MIT Visual Arts Program Cambridge, guest professor at the IUAV Arts and Design University in Venice and professor for photography at the University for Arts and Design Karlsruhe (HfG).
