Digital Performance and Visual Interventions in Post-Media Trans-disciplinary Artistic Practices

Luz María Sánchez Cardona will introduce her long-term multimedia and transdisciplinary art-research project Vis. [un]necessary force through a contextual, affective and forensic approach. One of its conceptual frameworks come from Georges Didi-Huberman’s idea of ‘Intermittent Space’ (2018), where he proposes — in opposition to the totalitarian machine — the possibility of an interstitial and intermittent space in which individual sparks subsist. In the second section, she will introduce her recent projects vox inanis, post-corpus and [control · room] as post-Beckettian constructs in which she uses the political performative competencies of language to “undermine the algorithm” it embodies. One of the conceptual frameworks for this work is David Porush’s concept of the self-dismantling text: “attacking the machinery of language with the machinery of language itself” (1986).

Luz María Sánchez Cardona is a transdisciplinary artist, scholar, educator and writer with a solid professional career of 22+ years in new media. Her artistic practice takes a technoscientific base as a starting point for explorations into the social sciences, the humanities, and the earth system sciences. She has a robust international network across Europe and the Americas, and an extensive record of publications, lectures and exhibitions in internationally relevant institutions such as Ars Electronica/ÖK·Centre, Linz (2020); MUAC (University Museum of Contemporary Art) Mexico City (2019); WRO Art Center, Wroclaw (2019); and ZKM|Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe (2017). In 2020 Sánchez Cardona received a Prix Ars Electronica Honorary Mention, as well as was awarded a 3-year grant from the Mexican Culture Ministry. As an educator, Sánchez Cardona has been working for 12+ years in different learning environments. Her teaching experience within new media arts ranges from an established academic career in a major Mexican university to the role of visiting professor and lecturer in universities in Europe and the Americas. As a researcher, Sánchez Cardona has a strong publishing record with numerous articles and four books, ranging from an overview of contemporary art practices and sound in the XX Century to Samuel Beckett’s postmedial techno-layered work. Finally, as a curator-producer within academia and the arts, Sánchez Cardona has strongly encouraged the dissemination of new practitioners by exploring exhibition formats as arenas for cross-disciplinary dialogue, curated new media conference tracks, and organized hubs and networks for facilitating such dialogues with the inclusion of all members of a university ecosystem.
