ARTEC Artist-in-Residence: Alex Murray-Leslie from Chicks on Speed

The Trondheim Academy of Fine Art (KiT) at NTNU is pleased to announce that Alex Murray-Leslie will be guest artist in the ARTEC Artist-in-Residence Program and will be spending time in Trondheim, NTNU and at KiT during Autumn 2018.

Alex will make a short visit to Trondheim from 11th-17th of September to prepare for her residency, and will return during the month of November.

Dr. Alexandra Murray-Leslie is an academic pop-artist and co-founder of the art band Chicks on Speed. She’s currently guest researcher at Animal Logic Academy, Faculty of Transdisciplinary Innovation, The University of Technology Sydney and Research Affiliate at CCC (Critical Curatorial Cybernetic Studies), HEAD, The University of Art and Design, Geneva. Her practice-based research focuses on the design and development of somatic wearable musical instruments, with a focus on computer enhanced foot devices for on land, in air and water theatrical audiovisual expression.

Alex has worked in the worlds of on-body technology, computer aided design and manufacturing, sports, art, fashion and entertainment. She was recently artist researcher in residence at Autodesk, Pier 9 Technology Centre, San Francisco and held the positions; Artistic Director of Youth Mobile, Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2017 and Director of Entertainment at America’s Cup world series 2013/14 in Plymouth, San Diego and San Francisco, where she worked closely on the the America's Cup Healthy Ocean Project outreach and education programs.

Recent Collaborations include projects with artist ORLAN, inventor and scientist Steve Mann and MANlabs and companies; Protopixel, expressive lighting systems, Reactable and Wekinator (machine learning for artists).

ARTEC champions research and artistic excellence by exploring the potential of cross-disciplinary collaboration in the fields of art(s), humanities and technology within the frame of the University and in collaboration with external partners. Their main aim is to foster innovative research involved while simultaneously producing cutting edge artworks and creative practices. A heterogeneous group of researchers and artists working in different fields and departments at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology such as the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications, Engineering Design and Materials, Computer and Information Science, Music, Theatre, Literature and Fine Arts comprises ARTEC.
