Yana Mikhalina is an artist and researcher working with small case studies in history (in the form of an event, imaginary character, or an institution) that concerns sex, class, and language as a way to address contemporary ethics. Her works take the form of events, correspondence, films, long-distance walks. She is occupied with borders and intersections of psychoanalysis and anarchism, Islam feminism, micropolitics of desire, adolescence as a socio-cultural construction, searching for a place of a subject in various discursive formations, no matter how challenging or hopeless they appear to be. She is also an editor and translator of a psychoanalytic journal Lacanalia.
Yana's PhD project researches space signified as madness in the scope of institutional time-diverse territories within a framework of art and psychoanalysis, society and politics, science and ethics, to identify shifts in the production of a ‘mad’ subject, ‘mad’ subjectivity and body in relation to certain parts of our contemporaneity.
