Regina Maria Moeller
Profile
Regina Möller is an artist, author, founder of the magazine “regina” and founder of the label “embodiment”. She works with a wide range of medial formats.
“The multitude of voices into which Regina Maria Möller splits her artistic work corresponds to the various positions she adopts with regard to that which she confronts. Similar to the way in which overlapping circles form intersections that shift previously peripheral material into a (new) center, Möller shifts attention and reshuffles the cards, so to speak: secondary characters become protagonists, coherencies become contents, opposites are robbed of their oppositions. Möller uses the strategies inherent in her media, overwriting and adapting them for her own purposes, and shows that there are always a number of different versions underneath and alongside the official interpretation.”
(Matthias Herrmann in: Regina Möller: embodiment – dress plot, exhibition catalogue Secession, Vienna 2004)
1994 she founded the magazine regina – which achieved international acknowledgement. regina is an adaptation of the format of mainstream women’s fashion magazine and their notion of women’s everyday life. regina includes the familiar sections – fashion, work, home & garden, recipes, partnership – but the real content of regina is evident how this everyday is dealt with differently, often through the production of discourse.
In the same year she launched the (art) label embodiment. Under this label she produces limited editions of furniture, wallpaper, carpets, accessories and clothes imbuing their materials with new, unusual meanings. The embodiment works can be worn or used as functional design objects. They also reference portraiture and sculpture. embodiment is to be understood as a seam between art and design, and it is a research field about the second skin and the relation between the body and the environment at large.
The projects and works of Regina Maria Möller have been widely exhibited both nationally and internationally in solo and group shows in venues including Manifesta 1 / NL, 45th Venice Biennial / IT, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art / DK, Tate Liverpool / GB, Moderna Museet / SE, Wiener Secession / AT, 3rd Berlin Biennial / DE, Sprengel Museum Hannover / DE, Tate St. Ives /GB, Kunstverein München / DE, Tensta konsthall / SE and more. 2012 she co-curated ZERO 1 Biennial San Jose Biennial, Silicon Valley / USA.
Currently she is working on a trilogy "The Silent Speaker", which is developing over time and shown on three different cultural venues. In spring 2015 she will begin with an artistic research project - including an exhibition, conference and publication - in Singapore on the invitation of NTU / CCA (Nanyang Technological University / Center for Contemporary Art Singapore) - Möller's project is kindly supported by OCA (Office for Contemporary Art, Norway)
Aside from her art works and projects she contributes continuously with talks, lectures and workshops worldwide. Recently she participated at CULTURUNNERS @ MIT, a workshop and kick off research about empathy, Edge of Arabia; MIT, Cambridge-Boston / USA.
She has been lecturing as professor and guest professor at international universities and academies, for example Kungliga Konshögksolan (KKH), Stockholm; The Visual Art Program (VAP), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) , Cambridge USA. Currently Regina (Maria) Möller is Professor at the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art, Faculty of Architecture and Fine Art, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (KiT / NTNU).
